“Hey, What are You Doing?”

What would you do if someone walked up to your car, climbed in, and started it. I’m guessing you might shout at them, “Hey, what are you doing?” How might you respond if they replied that the Lord needs to use it? This is my equivalent of the two disciples going into the village to retrieve a colt for Jesus as recorded in Mark 11:1-6 (NASB).

Like so many unknown people in the Bible, I marvel at the response to the disciples untying a colt they do not own. It’s only natural that the bystanders would  ask,  “What are you doing, untying the colt (5)?” What isn’t natural is how they responded to the disciples answer: “The Lord has need of it (3).” You could say it was supernatural: “They spoke to them just as Jesus had told them, and they gave them permission (6).”

Jesus told his disciples what would happen. Maybe they had their doubts about going to retrieve the colt, but they went and it played out just as Jesus said it would. But I think about the people who had no idea of what was about to happen. They must have been surprised by the disciples answer, yet they let them take the colt.

“The Lord has need of it.” How do you respond when you are faced with that statement in your life? If someone untied your schedule, your money, your home, or something else you own, how would you respond if they told you, “The Lord has need of it?” Would you give them permission?

They brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it. – Mark 11:7, NASB
