God Provides

God, who created the world and all that is in it, created you. His love and care for the world, and for you, is evident in the details. There’s a great picture of this in 1 Kings 17:1-5.

In this passage, Elijah the prophet told Ahab, King of Israel, “As the LORD, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word (17:1, NASB).” And it came to pass just as it was prophesied.

Yet God knew there would be consequences for Elijah after he told Ahab this prophecy. So God demonstrated His concern for Elijah by taking care of his needs. He told Him to hide himself by the brook of Cherith east of Jordan (3). “It shall be that you will drink of the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there (4).”

In our obedience to God there may be consequences in the wake of what we are commanded to do. However, like Elijah, we can trust God to care for us according to His will. The love and grace God showers on us is as vast as the universe He created.

Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” – Revelation 4:11, NASB
