Here in the northern part of the U.S., spring is in the air. This time of year it reminds me of my growing up years on a farm. So much time and effort went into planting the crops each spring, only to wait once the seed was in the ground. There was nothing else to do to rush the process.
Sometimes ministry is like that. In the spring time of a ministry, so much time and effort can go into planting the seeds of the gospel into people. Yet often all we can do is wait to see if those seeds take root and grow. Any effort to rush the germination might actually hurt the process.
Paul reminded us in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7: “I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth (NASB).” In our work to share the gospel, we need to patiently wait for God to cause the growth. That is the most important part of sowing the seeds of the gospel. As Paul mentioned, those who sow and water are nothing compared to the work God does in the human heart.
For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. – 1 Corinthians 3:11
