Jesus told us:
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, NASB).
But how can it be possible? Resting in God is something we must learn. It does not happen overnight. The struggles of each day challenge us with worry, restlessness and fatigue. We wrestle with applying God’s wisdom to our life. Some days are exhausting as we resist the pounding of waves and wind against our life.
Jesus tells us, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.” He is a gentle teacher, someone who humbly steps into our world with a helping hand. He instructs us, coaxes us along as he mentors us in trusting God. He wants us to experience rest for our soul.
The world wants us to carry the yoke of being self sufficient, strong and independent. We are encouraged to seek inner peace in ourselves, but the restlessness persists. We remain unsettled, fatigued with the weight of self sufficiency. As we contemplate what it means to remove the yoke of the world, Jesus is there offering rest for our weary souls. He offers His yoke, telling us: “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Take His yoke upon you and learn.

Thankful that we can find rest in our Savior. ❤️
Praise God for the peace He gives us. Blessings.
Thanks for sharing this. It was something I needed to remind myself of today. And, yes, learning to rest in Jesus takes time 🙂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. May you be strengthened this day. May you feel the peace of Jesus envelope you. Blessings.
Only God can give peace, the peace that passes all understanding.
Praise God for the peace He gives us.
“fatigued with the weight of self sufficiency.” You hit the nail on the head, CG. Pulling oneself up by the boot straps is the only type of self-actualization this world knows. Even then, it’s still about the SELF. Sharing our burdens with Christ means coming to the light. Sadly, some prefer not to do that. 🙏Heavenly Father, I choose Your yoke over my own self-sufficiency. Great post, as always. God Bless!
I have this image of pulling myself up by the bootstraps and pulling my feet out from under me so I fall flat on my back. At that point, I look up to Jesus for help. Thanks for reading and for the comment. Blessings.
I’ve envisioned that myself, brother, and even lived it a few times. It’s much better to give it all to God from the beginning. I still struggle sometimes with wanting to do it all myself.
Great thoughts, CG. Yes, the world tries to make us carry the whole load ourselves.
A “yoke” implies work, and there will always be work to do. But it also implies teamwork. (I ‘ve never seen one ox wearing a yoke.) With Jesus sharing the task – that makes all the difference.
Thanks for the comment. Sharing the load makes me think of Jesus mentoring His disciples. He continues to mentor us today, helping us with life’s burdens. Blessings.
