The Spirit of God can bring us comfort and peace during difficult times in our lives. His Son Jesus walked this earth and experienced first hand the trials we can face each day. He wept over the death of Lazarus and suffered on the cross for our sins.
Because God knows what we need, He knows how to comfort us. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort (NASB).” However, the next verse reminds that the comfort we receive from God equips us to comfort others: “so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God (4).”
When we go through trials, we experience pain and suffering. It equips us to empathize with others who experience the same suffering. Likewise, when we experience God’s comfort it helps us to endure the trial. We are not overcome to the point of being unable to help others.
