What Do Your Words Say About Your Heart?

There are a lot of words flying around these days. I asked an AI engine and it estimated between 50-100 million words are posted each minute just on social media. It makes me wonder what all those words are doing to those who receive them. Are they building people up or tearing them down?

Jesus reminded us, “But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man (Matthew 15:18, NASB).” The words we say and hear can reveal a lot about our heart. James put it this way:

But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God (James 3:8-9).”

If we love the Lord God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, then our words should show the love of God to our neighbors (Mark 12:30-31). Before sending out our words we should recall that we are God’s image-bearers and how it may affect them. Even more importantly, what will those words say about the heart of the sender.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. – Colossians 3:15, NASB
