When we profess our faith in Jesus, we choose to follow God. That also puts a target on our back. We become an enemy to satan. He will seek to tempt us to wander away from God and follow worldly ways.
1 Peter 5:6-10 reminds us to humble ourselves before God and cling to Him. He wants us to be aware that the devil is loud and obnoxious, hurling insults at us in an effort to devour us (8). Yet resisting the evil one affirms and deepens our faith in Jesus. “After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you (10, NASB).”
Our firm resolve to follow Jesus is what enables us to over come the world. Within the battle with evil, we learn how to push back on the hostile forces that seek to derail our faith. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith (1 John 5:4).”
