Where Righteousness Dwells

In our fallen world full of sinful behavior, it’s hard to picture a place where there is no crime; a place where someone’s word is trustworthy; a place with no need for locks; a place with no sickness, sorrow or death; a place full of righteousness. This is what the new Heaven and the new earth will be like.

Peter told us, “But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells (2 Peter 3:13, NASB).” There will be “a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea (Revelation 21:1).” There, God will “wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away (21:4).”

We live in a fallen world full of sin. But our Hope in Jesus is eternal life with Him in the new heaven and new earth. A place where we will be made new. A place where only righteousness is present. A place with no darkness. “And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever (Revelation 22:5).”

Take some time this week to read Revelation 21 and 22. Remind yourself of the hope we have in Jesus. Be encouraged in the midst of your daily walk through this fallen world. Know that all the powers and things on this earth will pass away. Keep your hope focused on Jesus and the life that he gives. Imagine life with our Lord in the new heaven and the new earth. “Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children (Revelation 21:7, NIV).”

They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.” – Revelation 7:16-17

  1. We have so much to look forward to in the new heaven and new earth!
I once made a list of professions that will not be needed in heaven – doctors and repairmen of all kinds – anyone who fixes problems. Also anyone who deals with sin and strife – police, judges, jailers, warriors, etc. People that will probably continue to do what they’ve been doing are worship leaders, songwriters, singers, artists, architects (building the mansions 😉 ) – anyone who creates beauty to glorify the Lord.

  2. Thanks for your encouragement. I pray with you: Lord, help us “Keep [our] hope focused on Jesus and the life that he gives. Imagine life with our Lord in the new heaven and the new earth.” Will do!
