Being first is one thing, but putting something first in your life is something completely different. To place first in a race means you’ve beaten everyone else to the finish line. First place in a contest places your work above everyone else.
So where do you place your love of God in life? Maybe you place him in second or not at all. Perhaps He was first until your life raced past Him and now you’re first ahead of God. First love isn’t just a time in your life, it’s a continual effort to place God first above all things.
1 John 4:18 tells us God first loved us. His love and care for us has never stopped. He is steadfast, never changing. God wants our undivided attention. In Revelation 2:4, the one complaint God has against the church in Ephesus is that they left their first love.
Consider today where you place God in your life.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33, NASB
