Hebrews 12:1 tells us, “let us run with endurance the race that is set before us (NASB).” The day you were born, God set before you the race you are to run for Him in this life. However, so much in this world tries to tangle you in sin and stop you from completing that race (12:1). I’m sure you’ve heard it all. The critical words, threats, barriers, and hostility hurled at you.
Fortunately we have Jesus as our role model, who continually sought to do the will of His Father God despite immense opposition. Hebrews 12:2 tells us to focus “on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.” He endured the cross to bring salvation, eternal life to us. Hebrews 12:2 also tells us He did it “for the joy set before Him.”
For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart (Hebrews 12:3).”
Do you know the specific race God has set before you. There is a certain joy in knowing God made you special for His purposes. The world is full of opposition to God’s plan and His Word, but if you keep your eyes focused on Jesus, you will finish that race. Listen to that great cloud of witnesses cheering you on.
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. – Hebrews 12:1, NASB
