Angry Faith

Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.  – Matthew 7:6, NASB

I recently read this verse after reading Deuteronomy 32:51-52 where God tells Moses that he cannot enter the promised land because he “broke faith” and did not treat God as holy before the Israelites at the waters of Meribah. It strikes me that the same thread running between these two verses is respect for God’s holiness. It is something to take seriously.

It’s a reminder to followers of Jesus to be careful in how we represent God before others. In the case of the Matthew verse, we should be aware there are those who do not want to hear God’s word and will only trample it and not give God the honor and respect  He deserves. In the case of Meribah, it’s a reminder to not let our anger taint our representation of God.
