Everyday—Encouragement in Chalk

“Everyday” is a series of Thursday posts this month looking at God’s presence in everyday life.

Someone scrawled a message in chalk on their driveway. Two Bible verses, Joshua 1:19” and Proverbs 3:5-6. It wasn’t a random act. The couple living at the house had set the chalk out for people to draw or leave messages.

People in the neighborhood knew about the cancer diagnosis. Someone took a moment to jot down some encouraging scripture references and now this couple was looking them up online. I’m standing there watching them reading these verses on their phones. I marvel at how God works, how he orchestrated all of this right down to the detail of having scripture readily available on a phone.

I appreciate the people who took a moment to chalk those verses on the driveway. I was grateful I saw the impact of writing those verses—seeing them read Bible verses with words of encouragement. Seeing the result of the small gesture of writing a verse in chalk on a driveway shows me that it’s important to respond to the prompting of the Spirit of God—the call to help encourage one another.

Take a moment to share your own everyday experience with God in a comment.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIV)

  1. God is there with us in all the moments of our lives. Our encounter with God is all day, every day. He never forgets about us…ever.
