In Luke 21, Jesus talked about the coming persecution for His followers. He pointed out that because they would be brought before kings and governors, they would have an “opportunity for your testimony (verse 12, NASB).” He told his followers not to worry about defending themselves, “for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute (15).”
God’s wisdom is usually at odds with the wisdom of the world. Our instinct is to defend ourselves when we are falsely accused and brought in front of those in authority. But Jesus tells us not to worry. He reminds us that there is a greater purpose in it all — a chance to give your testimony about Jesus. In this passage Jesus also warned us that even family and friends will betray us “and you will be hated by all because of My name (17).”
By knowing these things ahead of time, we can focus on God’s purpose behind it all. When we face trials — when it seems everyone is against us — know that God is with you. He will help you navigate difficulties and give you what you need to respond to the false accusations of others. “By your endurance you will gain your lives (19).”
