There have been times in my life where I suffered deep sorrow; times of deep trauma; times when it seemed the grief and tears would not stop. Yet I can look back at these times and see God’s faithfulness. He did not abandon me. He was there every step of the way.
I thought of these times as I read Psalm 136. Each verse in the Psalm ends with the phrase, “For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” Verse by verse the Psalmist records all that God has done for Israel from crossing the Red Sea, to overthrowing kings, to God’s provision of food. After each incident, the Psalm calls the reader to remember God’s everlasting love.
When I reflect on God’s steadfast love for me, it is reassuring to know he is always there. As hard as some things have been in my life, his love and care for me has not ceased. Take some time today to identify things God has done for you. After each thing you recall, recite the phrase: “For His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
