You Were Always There

Beaten down by hostile words

But you helped me overcome

Struck by an abusive hand

But you helped me overcome

Told who I would never be

But you helped me overcome

Hope crushed before my eyes

But you helped me overcome

Deep hurt pained my soul

But you helped me overcome

Negative words hurled at me

But you helped me overcome

Feeling alone in dire need

But you helped me overcome

Knowing I’m not worthy

But you overcame

Your good word

Raised me up

Your resurrection

Brings me life

Then He said to me, “ It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. – Revelation 21:6-7 (NASB)

  1. The repetition in this poem is very powerful. It drums home your message… very important. Then, when you broke the repetition and simply said, “But you overcame…” it caught the attention you intended and drummed home the point, “Your resurrection/Brings me life.” Well done! Powerfully written, CG. ❤
