Oh my, I did leave out the context, didn’t I?! Please be assured that in the book it’s clear that I’m talking about surrender to the Lord! The distaste for the word “surrender” often keeps people from wanting to trust Him and keeps them from that divine peace we all want. You’re right, sadly many surrender to the wrong things, to their ultimate destruction.

At the risk of self-promoting, I want to share with you some insights I received on “surrender,” and possibly why the word makes some in the world want to run the other way.
“Some of us have a problem with the word ‘surrender.’ The reason is probably that we’re thinking of the kind of surrender that happens on the battlefield, where a beaten, bloody, half-dead soldier has no choice but to give himself up to his enemy. But that is only one kind of surrender.“Would it help instead to think of the surrender that a bride gives her bridegroom on her wedding night? Depending on one’s attitude, surrender can be an indescribably joyous act of the will, and the peace it brings is beyond anything the world or its treasures have to offer.” (BARRIERS, Chapter Fifteen)
The key question that must be considered is what we surrender to. Some things do not offer the peace that surpasses all understanding (Ephesians 3:14-19).
