Have you ever looked back on a missed opportunity to share your faith in Jesus with regret? There they were asking pointed questions about Jesus and you backed down out of fear. It’s a feeling that helps us in some way relate to Peter’s denial in Mark 14:66-72 where he feels deep remorse and weeps.
It’s interesting that at their last Passover meal together, Jesus warns Peter that “Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat (Luke 22:31, NASB).” He knows Satan is trying to attack His disciples, but Jesus told him something else that’s important. He told him that He prayed for Him.
If the Son of God prayed for Peter, shouldn’t we do the same for the body of Christ? I like how Jesus told Peter, “I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers (Luke 22:32).” It’s a great model for us to follow.
Know that you and your fellow believers will be challenged, even attacked for your faith. Know that Satan is seeking to sift the body of believers in Jesus. Pray for each other, that our faith may not fail—that even though we may stumble, we will get back up with a stronger faith that encourages others.
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8, NASB
