God has given a glimpse of what it will be like to be with Him for all eternity. He was with Israel when they left Egypt and demonstrated His dominion over the world. He sent Jesus to walk among the people of the world to show them the way to salvation. Today believers in Jesus have the Spirit of God dwelling within us. As amazing as it is to experience the Spirit of God, it is only a glimpse of what is to come.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them. – Revelation 21:3, NASB
In the new Heaven and new earth described in Revelation 21, we will be made whole and reside with God. The pain and brokenness of life on this earth will disappear as we are made new. “There will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain (4).” All the pain and suffering we experience now, the endless tears, will be no more.
It’s hard to imagine what it will be like, but this is the hope we have as followers of Jesus. In Him, in the Spirit of God, we can experience Him today. We can get a taste of the peace and joy that is to come. Despite our difficulties now, we can rest in God and know He is with us: “O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him (Psalm 34:8)!”
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? – 1 Corinthians 6:19, NASB
