I was visiting someone in a nursing home a few weeks ago. He had been in and out of the hospital for months. His recent stay left him without being able to have plain water for weeks. I happened to be with him when he was able to get his first drink of ice water. I marveled at how appreciative he was at that moment for that simple cup of ice water. His face glowed with each swallow.
He was not able to hold the cup himself so the dietitian held it for him so he could drink from the straw. What a precious site it was to see this simple, but profound act of service. I immediately thought of Matthew 26:35: “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in (NASB).”
When we see things the way God sees them, we are able to see the needs of those around us. We can see how a simple drink of water can bring so much joy. Our heart is equipped to respond as God intends us to. Trust that God has equipped you to help meet the needs of people who He places in your path at that moment.
The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.” – Matthew 25:40, NASB
Amen! Wonderful post! Thank you for sharing this with us and reminding us that God equips us with all we need to help others.
