When I was in high school in the 1970s, there were some pretty cool fashions we teenagers wore. Now when I look at pictures from that era and the outfits we wore, I wonder why we thought they were cool. Trendy clothing styles come and go just like trendy beliefs.
Paul writes about this in Ephesians 4:14: “As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming (NASB).” Without a strong faith in Christ we are vulnerable to the latest trendy beliefs that come and go. We can place our hope in things that ultimately leave us empty like yesterday’s fashions.
