A Rich Aroma

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she looked at the box full of food. “I did not know where I was going to get food today.” The emotional response was evident. She was touched by the rich aroma of God’s love expressed by the hands of His faithful.

Paul expresses this emotional response toward the end of his letter to the Philippians: “But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God (4:18, NASB).”

When we are obedient to God and respond to His call to provide for the needs of others, it becomes a pleasing sacrifice offered to God. We provide for an emotional need as well as a physical need. Paul had a tangible example of how God provided for his needs. He saw God’s hand in it. The rich aroma of faith in Christ Jesus is clearly evident.
