Shredding Through Life

I saw the sign in the above photo in a store the other day. It made me think how temporary things are in this world. One minute we’re printing new documents, the next minute we’re shredding old documents. Eventually the new documents will be become old and destined for the shredder. The cycle of printing and shredding seems to never end.

In Ecclesiastes, Solomon reminded us how short-lived things are in this life: “Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun (2:11, NASB).” Everything we work for on this earth will not last, but all is not lost.

Praise God that he offers us the gift of eternal life through His son Jesus. This week as we approach Easter, reflect on the hope Jesus gave us through his death and resurrection. When we choose to follow Jesus, we have an eternally focused purpose. There is freedom from the endless cycle of printing and shredding.

“But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body.” – Ecclesiastes 12:12, NASB

“The grass withers and the flowers, but the word of our God endures forever.” – Isaiah 40:8
