Your Attention Please!

From the moment you wake up from your slumber, the world beckons you. Social media alerts, phone calls, to-do lists, friends knocking, packages delivered, grass that needs mowing, the leaking kitchen sink, family members that need help…the world rumbles on and calls to you the moment you open your eyes.

“After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12, NIV).”

You want to roll over and pull the covers over your head, but there’s a faint whisper. It’s barely audible amidst all the noise of your world. It’s calling to you, asking for a moment, a few minutes to talk with the one who created you; the one who formed you; the one who gave you the breath of life; the one who wants you to know him in a deeper way. The God who created all things wants to speak to you.

“Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say (Isaiah 28:23).”

All that surrounds you will one day fade away. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever (Isaiah 40:8).” He is there at this moment as you awaken. He has always been and will always be. In this passing moment he wants to give you a glimpse of eternity. God wants you to immerse yourself in His presence and feel His peace. Only you and God for this moment.

“And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him. Who then can understand the thunder of his power?” – Job 26:14, NIV
