When I look back at times in my life when I was weary and heavy-laden, weighed down by trials in life, rest and a light burden seemed out of reach. Yet now many of those trials have passed and indeed the burden is lighter. Sure there are new trials to deal with, but it seems the experience of the past has better equipped me to deal with new burdens.
Just as as an athlete endures pain preparing for competition, I’ve endured pain as I’ve worked through trials. At first the weight seems too much to carry and my steps are heavy. I cry out to the Lord in my pain for relief, and he is there gently coaching me. He is humble in heart, knowing the pain I feel. He tells me to follow his way.
The Lord is with me every step of the way. At times the weight of the load on my shoulders seems too much, but he tells me I can handle it. As he trains me, as I trust Him, my strength increases, my ability to run the distance improves. His yoke does indeed feel lighter, His way lightens the burden. He has not removed the trial, but has taught me endurance.
Faith is not something we simply slip on one day and then we’re good. It is something we wear each day through struggles and trials. We are tested each day as we learn to rely on Jesus to guide us. It requires trust to build up those muscles of faith that help lighten the burdens of this world.
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 NASB
Amen. Blessings Chris for sharing this testament with the verses from Matthew 28. When we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord, our trials will continue. However, we now have an steadfast ally who wants to help us carry life’s burdens.
Praise God for His steadfast love and His grace. Blessings.
