Next week I will begin posting, in a series of installments on Tuesdays and Thursdays, an article titled “Encroaching Light.” I decided to publish it in segments so that you can reflect on the scripture and what each post presents. As you read these posts over the next two weeks, think about what it means to go from deep darkness to light–what it means to find hope in something so fragile as a new born baby.
When we encounter an overpowering light, at first we might cover our eyes and squint. It takes time to adjust to the light, especially if we’ve been in darkness for a long period of time. Consider what it was like for the shepherds in the middle of the night to suddenly see an angel appear surrounded by the brightness of the glory of the Lord (Luke 2:9). Can you grasp what the shepherds must have felt when they heard the good news of the birth of a savior?
Take time these days before Christmas to slow down your life and think about what Christmas represents. Cradle the hope of the new born king in your arms. Consider that right where you are at today a savior was born for you, Christ the Lord. It is indeed “good news of great joy (Luke 2:10-11, NASB).”
On December 26 I will repost the article in its entirety so you can see how the installments build on each other.
Blessings to you this Christmas.
