FOMO Worship

Do you suffer from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) when it comes to worshiping God? In Numbers 9, God told Moses, “Now, let the sons of Israel observe the Passover at its appointed time (2, NASB).” He instructed them to “observe it according to all its statutes and according to all its ordinances (3).” So they observed the Passover at the appointed time.

“But there were some men who were unclean because of the dead person, so that they could not observe Passover on that day…(6).” These men reveal their heart for God by expressing their FOMO. The men tell Moses, “Though we are unclean because of the dead person, why are we restrained from presenting the offering of the LORD at its appointed time among the sons of Israel (7)?”

You get a sense of their disappointment in not being able to participate in the observance of the Passover. So Moses took their request to God and He accommodated them by allowing them to celebrate the Passover. He also instructed anyone on a distant journey to do the same (10).

Are there people in your church that might be feeling FOMO as these men did in Numbers 9. Maybe it’s an illness, struggles, or travel that keeps them away from your church’s appointed time of worship. Consider some ways you might accommodate them so they can feel like they are part of the worship experience. Seek God and His word for inspiration.
