Are You Ready to Receive?

Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the people. Luke 9:16, NASB

There’s a line in Luke 9:16 that caught my attention: “and kept giving them.” Jesus took what the disciples had and he kept giving loaves and fishes to the disciples to give to the people gathered there. He kept giving and giving to the five thousand men gathered to hear him speak, plus the women and children. “And they all ate and were satisfied (17).”

The people gathered to hear Jesus were hungry. They received what Jesus gave them and were filled. They could’ve chose to leave and find food on their own, but they followed His instructions to sit in groups of fifties (Luke 9:14-15). They were prepared to receive.

Jesus continues to give and give to you. Like the people gathered to hear Jesus speak about the Kingdom of God, you have to receive what he is giving you to satisfy your hunger. Don’t just hear His words, do what He says (James 1:22). Sit and prepare your heart to receive. Embrace Jesus with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). Find satisfaction in your Lord and savior and be filled with some leftover.

And they all ate and were satisfied; and the broken pieces which they had left over were picked up, twelve baskets full. – Luke 9:17, NASB

  1. Amen. When one gathers together with others in worship, all will be blessed to receive the Spirit’s nourishment. God’s grace and peace be with you, Chris.
