The Raging Calm Around You

Life storms. They are those unexpected events in your life that engulf you with trauma and seize your calm life. As the waves of hurt, worry, and pain pound away, you struggle to stop your life from capsizing and going under. You forget that Jesus is right there with you.

“Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing (Mark 4:38, NASB)?” It seems he does not care, as if he is asleep in the middle of this raging storm that surrounds your life. How could anyone rest so peacefully when life is about to be turned upside down?

“And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Hush, be still.’ And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm (39).” Suddenly Jesus’ calm becomes your calm. Your fear of the circumstances in your life is changed to a rightly placed fear of God. “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him (41)?” Certainly His hand is upon your life.

And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” – Mark 4:30, NASB

Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. – Genesis 1:9-10
