Without God, it’s hard to make sense of the world. If there is only randomness and no master plan, then it’s everyone for themselves as they see fit. We are merely surviving, completing work for purposes that do not last. As Solomon described it:
“For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity (Ecclesiastes 3:19, NASB).”
Without intentionally seeking God in all things, without seeing His hand as the creator and master planner of all things—we are left with empty philosophies that do not satisfy our hunger to understand why things are the way they are in this fallen world.
However, when we know and seek God in all things, we have an understanding of things in this world that goes beyond our human comprehension. We understand, “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven (3:1).” When we recognize God is in control, we know there is a purpose for the good and bad in this world that goes beyond our human understanding. He has given us an innate awareness of eternity in our heart to offer us an understanding that “He has made everything appropriate in its time (11).”
To know that God is in control, that he has a master plan, is to trust that there is a purpose that we cannot always see. A purpose that far surpasses our human desires and wants. To seek God, to know God, is to know He created all things and that He has a destiny and purpose for our life. It is indeed a gift from God to see the eternal good in our labor (12). May we turn to God in our sorrow and joy and see Him in all things.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. – Ephesians 3:14-19, NASB
And what a huge peace this is, with all that is going on.
Praise God for His steadfastness…
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations. – Psalm 100:5
