Rising Above the Distractions in Life

There is something gnawing at you deep inside. It’s a feeling that doesn’t go away, a restlessness. You try to push it away with distractions, but it remains, continuing to prod you. You search for answers, but the crowd stops you from seeing clearly.

Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature. (Luke 19:3, NASB)

Could Jesus be the answer? So many things try to stop you from seeing for yourself. You’ve heard so much about him and how he miraculously changed lives. That gnawing feeling persists. You must rise above the crowd to get a good look at Jesus, to see for yourself.

So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way (Luke 19:4).

Above the crowd, above all the confusing things people tell you to keep you from seeing Jesus, there you see him for yourself. Your eyes meet and you clearly see the truth at last. Jesus speaks to you.

When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” And he hurried and came down and received Him gladly. (Luke 19:5-6).

Jesus invites himself to come into your heart, your home, your life. Gladly receive Him. Celebrate that you have found the answer to what has been gnawing at you, prodding you. Refuse to listen to those who continue to try to dissuade you, who want to label you someone not worthy of having Jesus in your home.

When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” (Luke 19:7)

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
