Then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. – Genesis 32:24 (NASB)
Genesis 32:24-32 is commonly referred to as the passage where Jacob wrestled with God. When I recently read these verses, it occurred to me that it is life I wrestle with, not God. It seems life is full of unexpected heartbreaks, trials, and joy, but God is steadfast. He doesn’t change. He is my rock, my fortress. His love never fails. He is faithful and truth. He is eternal. These are truths I do not wrestle with God about.
It is life in this world that I wrestle with each day. It seems evil is constantly pursuing me, seeking to devour me; testing my faith in Jesus. In my own strength, I grow weary wrestling with adversaries who go against my faith. They seek to wear me down with their words and deeds.
But I know I have a strength in Jesus that will not be overcome. Even though I wrestle with those who seek to diminish my faith, I know God will be victorious in the end. There is no wrestling with God over this fact. His truth shines brightly drowning out the powers of darkness. He reigns!

Then He said to me, “ It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:6-8, NASB
Amen. Chris, your testament reminds me of the goodness of God. It is tempting to wrestle with the everyday noise that seeks to dampen our spirit. Quiet time with God carries my thoughts and actions away from the noise.
Good point. Getting away from the everyday noise with quiet time with God is important. Thanks for sharing. Blessings.
Interesting point. We can wrestle with life until it blesses us; as in, we continue in the tasks / people that God brings to us until we are finished with the mission. And we get the blessing from God.
May we continually seek God’s wisdom to faithfully fulfill His mission. Thanks for the comment. Blessings.
