They stand there, towering over you; ridiculing you; taunting you; demeaning you. They mock you; belittle your faith in Jesus; and talk of their superiority. They defy you and your faith in God. The voices rise up against you.
He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods (1 Samuel 17:43, NASB ).”
You feel out-powered against such a defiant spirit. You feel humiliated, shamed by this outspoken critic. You cower, step back, afraid to defend yourself. You don’t respond to the attacks, but retreat in silence, too afraid.
And David said, “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me…” – 1 Samuel 17:37
Cling to God. The helmet, armor, greaves, javelin, and spear of this world will not rescue you (1 Samuel 17:4-7). Clever words and arguments of this world will not save you. The battle belongs to the Lord. Lift up your weary soul to God. Trust in His wisdom to show you the right path. Lean on God, and lay your burdens on Him.

All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands (1 Samuel 17:47).”
Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. – Proverbs 3:5
