Our Portion

God promised the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey. He answered their prayers and brought them out of Egypt. Yet to Aaron he said in, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites (Numbers 18:20, NIV).” Instead of having claim to land and its produce, God gave “to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting (Verse 21).”

As those who commit to follow Jesus Christ, our inheritance is not on this earth. As children of God (John 1:12-13), our inheritance is eternal life with God our Father. When we believe in Jesus, we receive the Spirit of God. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 3:16, NASB).”

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. – Psalm 143:10 (NIV)

Just as the Spirit of God was with the Israelites, His Spirit is with us today, guiding us. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (John 14:26, NIV).” The Lord guided the Israelites “in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. (Exodus 13:21, NASB).” Today the Lord continues to guide us day and night.

But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; the LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he promised them. – Joshua 13:33 (NIV)

Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:22-23 (NIV)

  1. Amen! Blessings Chris for sharing these encouraging thoughts. Just like the Israelites, we sometimes find our focus distracted from our faith. Thankfully, we only need to focus again on the Lord’s blessed light.
