The affliction was heavy with no end in sight. The people cried out to God for years for relief. Then one day an old man appears out of the wilderness with his brother with a word from the Lord. How would you respond?
Moses and Aaron assemble the elders of the community. “Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken to Moses. He then performed the signs in the sight of the people (Exodus 4:30, NASB).” He tells them, “I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt (3:16).”
This isn’t just some old man talking about something heard in the wilderness. To counter any doubt he performs signs to the elders. “So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD was concerned about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, then they bowed low and worshiped (4:31).”
God hears your prayer in the wilderness of your life. He hears your cries and your affliction. When he sends people you don’t expect with a Word from the Lord, do you listen? When you see signs that God is with you, do you worship him and give thanks?
Like the Israelites, know that the answer to your prayers may not be how you expected it. You may even grow angry over the journey, but know that God is with you every step of the way, leading you to the promised land, “to a land flowing with milk and honey (3:17).”
