The house, while it was being built, was built of stone prepared at the quarry, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any iron tool heard in the house while it was being built. – 1 Kings 6:7 (NASB)
If you’ve been by an active construction site, you know there is usually noise coming from machines, workers and the movement of material. That’s why I am always fascinated by the verse in 1 Kings 6:7 where the stone for the construction of the temple is prepared at the quarry so no noise is made “in the house while it was being built.” It is such a reverent act of not filling God’s house with the noise of our work.
Each day we are busily chiseling away at our work in the quarry of our life shaping stones that fill our day. Our activity can fill our day with noise that drowns out the sacred. Sometimes we bring that activity to church with busy minds filled with the things we need to do. We bring the quarry of our life into God’s house and it makes it difficult to hear God.
It’s important to find a sacred place in your life where you can leave behind your quarry with all its activity and reflect on what God has for you. A place to seek forgiveness for sins in your life and feel the power of salvation through Jesus. A sacred place where the stones from the quarry in your life quietly fit together to create a life built around God according to His plans.

Know that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. – Psalm 100:3

Amen. Be still, and know that He is God. If Satan can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.
Well said. Business can distract us from God. Blessings.
Wishing you blessings! Excellent post!
Praise God! Blessings.
“We bring the quarry of our life into God’s house” – how true! So vitally important that we carve out a place for our daily devotions, and really CONNECT with God. We can mentally/spiritually go to that place when we fellowship and worship with others, or any time during our days.
Thanks for the comment. Worship and fellowship does help me focus on God when we lift our voices and hearts together to God. Blessings.
Oh this is one I need to hear and have sone one remind me of regularly. It seems even when I am silent my mind is filled with noise.
So true. It’s hard for me as well to turn down the noise and listen to God, even when I’m in a quiet place. Thanks for reading and commenting. Blessings.
Amen, brother! I’ve set aside space with God for many years now, but I need to do more to truly listen to Him.
You’ve made a great point in a unique way. Thank you, brother. Great post!
Good point. We can set aside the space, but we also need to listen to God. Thanks for the comment. Blessings.
