“It would take a miracle,” he said as he slowly sat on a rickety chair in front of the fireplace. He set his cell phone on the end table and looked at his friend. “It’s hopeless. Nothing is going to change.”
His friend joined him and watched the glowing embers. He sat silent for a moment then looked at him.
“I know that look. You’re going to tell me to just trust God.”
His friend didn’t respond. He took a sip of his coffee and nodded.
“I don’t see how things could possibly work out. It’s been like this for years.”
“God does,” his friend said.
