Overtaken by Trauma

The wave of trauma rises up before me, towering higher and higher. I cannot stop it from crashing over me, engulfing me in a torrent of many waters. The current of grief whisks me away. I am helpless. I cannot stop its force. The suffering twists my body, embroiling me in a sea of grief. I am overwhelmed by the many waters of life’s pain. I cannot control it on my own.

But there is something more powerful than all of life’s struggles. “He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. “He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, for they were too strong for me (Psalm 18:16-17, NASB).” God, the creator of heaven and earth, is far greater than anything we face in this life. “More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty. Your testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore (Psalm 93:4-5).”

As powerful as the forces of this earth may seem, God is stronger. When we humble ourselves before Him, we put our faith in His ways, His purposes. Though many waters may rise up to overtake us, “The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The LORD is over many waters (Psalm 29:3). He is over us. He covers us with His peace, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).”

    1. God continues to pursue even when people resist. His grace and love is amazing. I think of Moses fleeing and God pursuing Him. Thanks for the comment. Blessings.

  1. I believe God does hold and comfort us. I know that wave so well.. its not easy to live with it overtaking us on a daily basis but somehow we come through the storm. I have been reading up a lot on that bible passage where the apostles are caught up in the storm on the Sea of Gallilee. Christ does come to their aid in the end.. maybe it is all just a test of faith..
