Wisdom of Solomon

The Book of Proverbs is full of wisdom for life. The challenge for the reader is to apply that wisdom. Proverbs 8:32-36 identifies, for example, what we must do to put our faith into action:

32-33: “Now therefore, O sons, listen to me, For blessed are they who keep my ways. We must listen to God and his wisdom and keep to His ways. Heed instruction and be wise, And do not neglect it (NASB).”

We must be open to instruction, willing to learn from other Christians and not ignore maturing in our faith.

34: “Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at my doorposts.”

Not only must we listen to God, but we should watch for Him daily; waiting on Him and not jumping ahead with our own wisdom.

35: “For he who finds me finds life And obtains favor from the LORD.”

To find God, to give your life to Christ Jesus, is to find favor from God; to find eternal life with the Lord.

36: “But he who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death.”

This is a stark warning that when we sin against God we end up hurting ourselves. To hate God is to choose death — eternal separation from God.

  2. Amen! The Lord’s Word speaks to us through many inspiring and truthful voices, such as Solomon. These four verses from Proverbs speak as a daily prayer.
