Years ago I began highlighting Bible verses that spoke to me in the midst of traumatic events. This month I am sharing some of these verses and a short reflection.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. – Romans 8:26 (NIV)
The words were evasive. The tears overwhelming. The worry overtook me. I was immobilized. I wanted to cry out to the Lord, but I could not find the words. I saw no way to explain the flood of emotions I felt. Then I came across this verse. It was the realization that God knows what we can’t verbalize.
The Spirit of God within us experiences the pain with us. His Spirit intercedes for us, groaning with us; feeling the sorrow with us. It is an intimacy with God that requires no words.
