Pure praise. What does that look like dear God? To stop myself from moving; to stop my mind from racing thoughts; to approach you with nothing but praise. Shedding all my earthly chains for this moment, I come before you empty. I lift my empty hands to you dear God and exalt your name. You are worthy of all praise. All I am is because of you. You are deserving of all praise.

Praise to you dear God for the way you show your love and grace. I praise you that you do not always meet my expectations, but instead choose the better path for me; the path with the long term view, not short term gain. I praise you for the littlest surprises that appear in our day to bring encouragement. Your love dear God abounds. It is unfathomable. I sing praises that your love is not limited by our ability to love you back. You created us in your image and love us beyond measure. May our love for you deepen each day dear God.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge —that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. This morning God I feel the wind in my hair. It blows forcefully past my face. I hear thunder in the distance. I feel rain falling upon me. A fresh, clean smell fills the air. I praise you God that you fill our senses with your creation. I praise you that you fill us with your Spirit. I praise you that you give us hope in a world filled with hopelessness. I praise you that you are present even in the small things. Thank you for your infinite care for us. Thank you that your grace and mercy abound. I give you praise this morning!

He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth — the Lord God Almighty is his name. – Amos 4:13 (NIV)

This morning my mind is filled with earthly concerns, yet my heart just wants to praise you dear God. I am drawn to the Psalmist who wrote Psalm 150 so many years ago yet it still rings true today.

Praise the Lord.

Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

I praise you dear God for the majesty of your creation. I praise you for the vista of mountains in the daylight that leaves us breathless. I praise you for how that same mountain ridge is so strikingly different and amazing at sunset. I praise you for the beautiful detail within that mountain range from majestic trees rising high above to a towering waterfall tumbling down a steep cliff into a relaxing stream that nurtures the smallest flower. I praise you for the sights and sounds of your creation: the bubbling brook, the wind in the trees and the sound of crickets in a warm night. Only you dear Lord give us so much in this world you created for us. May we forever sing our praises to you dear Lord for what you have given us.

When I look at the stars at night, I cannot comprehend the vastness of the universe you created dear God. I feel so insignificant gazing at the heavens. I feel like a lone grain of sand on an infinite beach of stars.

Yet I praise you dear God that you don’t see us as insignificant in your eyes. Just as you ordered the universe, you have ordered our lives. I praise you that as believers in Jesus Christ you count us worthy to serve you. That you value us in your kingdom. All praise to you dear God for giving us life. May we bring honor to your name today.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? – Psalm 8:3-4 (NIV)

All praise to you dear God for your loving hand, for your gracious love. I praise you this morning that you lift up my broken body, my crushed spirit, my shattered emotions. Thank you that you do not just sweep up the pieces of broken clay and throw them away, that you still see value in this vessel.

I praise you this morning that with meticulous care you pick up each piece and carefully put me back together. You treat each piece as valuable, each shard as precious. You carefully and slowly rebuild me piece by piece.* Your love and grace flows deeply into each porous piece of clay, the glue that holds me together. Praise God that you care enough to put me back together, even when I feel helplessly broken.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:6

It was like no piece of art I had ever seen. Golden hues of yellow, orange and red masterfully blended to create a sunset with a brilliance beyond compare. Like silky smooth honey flowing off a sky blue plate, the colors of the setting sun flowed into the water turning it from deep blue to liquid gold. I stood in awe, singing praises for our creator God as this piece of exceptional art unfolded before me, each stroke of his brush revealing the beauty of his creation upon the canvas sky.

Praise to you our Creator God and your infinite creativity evident in this world you gave us. May we take time today to admire the intricate details, the intrinsic beauty of this world you created. Help us to see your work, your hand, in the midst of the scars left on this world by humanity. All praise to you this day Father God, our creator.

Morning Praise — This week Lord I am again reminded of the frailty of our bodies. I praise you for your presence, for your healing touch and the hands of those in the dental profession who did surgery on me this week. I am grateful for all the training they completed to help me. Our bodies are such an amazing creation, yet I recognize we live in a fallen world where these bodies of ours will not last. I praise you God that you extend to us the promise of eternal life where we will be made anew; where we will no longer have bodies that wear out; where we will be in your presence forever. I give praise that you are a constant presence for those who are faithful to you. Give us us the stamina, the strength to carry out the mission you have given us here on this earth. Thank you that we are able to serve such a loving and gracious God.

I awoke this morning to a gift laid in front of me. There it sat neatly wrapped, addressed to me. Such a loving thought, someone taking time to give a gift just for me. As I peeled back the first piece of wrap, I felt the warm rays of morning light on my face. With the removal of the second piece of wrap, I heard the birds singing their morning song. With the next piece a light breeze began to blow. Piece after piece came off until there before me was the gift of a brand new day. I took a deep breath and praised God for the gift of this new day; the gift of another day of life.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:22
