Morning Praise — This week Lord I am again reminded of the frailty of our bodies. I praise you for your presence, for your healing touch and the hands of those in the dental profession who did surgery on me this week. I am grateful for all the training they completed to help me. Our bodies are such an amazing creation, yet I recognize we live in a fallen world where these bodies of ours will not last. I praise you God that you extend to us the promise of eternal life where we will be made anew; where we will no longer have bodies that wear out; where we will be in your presence forever. I give praise that you are a constant presence for those who are faithful to you. Give us us the stamina, the strength to carry out the mission you have given us here on this earth. Thank you that we are able to serve such a loving and gracious God.

I awoke this morning to a gift laid in front of me. There it sat neatly wrapped, addressed to me. Such a loving thought, someone taking time to give a gift just for me. As I peeled back the first piece of wrap, I felt the warm rays of morning light on my face. With the removal of the second piece of wrap, I heard the birds singing their morning song. With the next piece a light breeze began to blow. Piece after piece came off until there before me was the gift of a brand new day. I took a deep breath and praised God for the gift of this new day; the gift of another day of life.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:22

I am parched, beaten down by the scorching heat of life; dried out, craving relief from the oppressive inferno of barbs from others. In this moment I hear your word dear Lord: “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink (John 7:37, NIV).” Praise God that you don’t just offer a shot of water, mere drops to wet the palette. Praise to you Jesus that you offer to immerse us in a river of living water to heal our thirst. Praise God that you fill us to the point of overflowing. All we need is to believe it is so, that only Jesus can quench our parched souls; that Jesus can can fill us so we never thirst again; that Jesus fills us to the point of overflowing. All praise to you dear Jesus for giving us eternal life, for filling us with the Spirit of God.

This day I praise you dear God for the doctors, nurses and other medical staff who were there this week for my minor surgery. It is by your hand dear God that you equipped them with skills and abilities to care for people; to help care for illnesses and injuries. I am thankful for the years of training they completed to be available to care for people. I praise you dear God that you gave us medical professionals who continue to research and learn new ways to care for patients. May they also acquire a new appreciation of you dear God and your creation.

Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. – Jeremiah 17:14 (NIV)

In the quiet of the morning, there is a song on my lips. The words flow gently from my mind, emerging as a soft, fragrant sound of praise to you dear Lord. I praise you for the voice to praise you and the mind that gives me the words. Yet I know you know my thoughts, that even without the sound of praise to you, you know my heart; you know my inner most being. Praise to you dear God that you have entered my life and taken hold of me. May I continue to grow deeper in my love for you, my yearning to know your ways. All praise to you dear God for the love and grace you shower upon me. You are deserving of all praise.

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. – Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

This moment between the past and the future. This moment before the dawn. This moment between night and day. This quiet moment there is just you and me God. You sit here with me like a dear old dad sharing a cup of coffee and life, listening intently. In this silent moment before the day emerges, I share my inner most thoughts with you. You reassure me with your wisdom. I humbly praise you; that I can acknowledge you as father; that you know me by name. You are the loving father that cheers me on, the proud father beaming with pride in the stands as you watch me on the field. I am forever grateful that I am your child. I praise you for the family of believers, my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. All praise to you dear God for this day!

Today oh Lord I think of your loving care for us. No matter how ill we feel or discouraged we may be, you are there with a gentle arm around us, holding us ever so carefully. You cradle us in your hand like a fragile piece of fine china. You value us more than anything on earth. We are your precious creation, your prized possession.

All praise to you this morning dear God. We praise you for your love and grace. We praise you for the gift of salvation that you graciously offer to us. May we embrace your gift and never let anyone tell us we don’t deserve it. May we freely accept your gift and not feel we have to earn it. Praise God that we can rest in your son Jesus. All praise to you dear God, You are worthy of all praise. I rest in the knowledge that my life is in your hands.

The sun rises in the east. I feel the first rays of light warm my face, touching me with a golden glow. Your presence dear God awakens my soul. In this moment, I feel your Spirit envelope me. Joy fills me as I consider the love and grace you have lavished on me. The memories of the past, the pain from long ago, is covered with the knowledge that you were there. Despite what others did, you brought me to this point. Despite the tears from ancient streams of sorrow, you are here before me. Your loving arms embrace me. Praise God that you never abandoned me even when I felt like you did. Praise God that you are my shield, that you have given me these years of life. Praise God that you don’t consider me broken and useless, but you raise me up as a servant worthy of your call. All praise to you dear God for your grace, for sending your son Jesus to save us from our sins. Praise God that we can be your children, heirs to your kingdom. All praise to you dear God.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. In the most intricate details of nature, I see the hand of our creator God. I see the rhythm of your order in the rising and setting of the sun and the phases of the moon at night. I see the creek water gently flowing, gently nudged by your hand. I see the minute detail of a flower with your finger print imprinted on it in vibrant colors. With each breath I experience the life you have given me. I am amazed that we are created in your image. You care about the intricate details of our life.

With morning light today, may we sing the praises of your creation. May we lift your name high in thanksgiving for this world and your creation. May we express gratitude for the life you have given us. Give us courage to follow you dear Jesus, to stand firm with you. May we this day be an example of a life lived for you dear God. May we make an impression on others for your name sake.

This morning Lord I seek purpose. My heart is heavy. This world continues to frustrate me. Help me Lord to seek you, to sing you praises in the midst of my sorrow and hurt. Help me to remember Jesus knows our pain, felt our pain when he walked the earth. Help us to remember we are your creation. Praise God that you consider us family, your child given an eternal inheritance.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:13-14, NIV).”
