The Dark Winter Days of Life

During the cold days of January here in the northern U.S., it can seem like the darkness will never end. Sometimes life feels like that. Yet this time of year there is a reminder that the long dark days will not last forever. Each day the length of daylight slowly increases, pushing out more of the darkness. It offers hope.

Darkness in your life can feel overwhelming and overpowering, but God reassures us that His light will overcome the darkness. Know that during these times God is strengthening your faith–that the length of His light in your life is getting longer. In the waiting, lean on Him. Through your prayers and laying your heart before God, let the trials deepen your relationship with Jesus.

Be assured that you’re not alone. So many passages in the Bible reflect on how waiting on God can strengthen and renew you:

Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. – Psalm 27:14, NASB

Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. – Isaiah 40:31

Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; – Psalm 37:7

You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. – James 5:8

Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him. – Psalm 105:19

The LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; – Job 42:12

Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. – Psalm 33:20

Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4
