We don’t know what they had planned for the day when they first spotted something unique in the sky. What we do know is that the magi took note of it and pursued the meaning behind it. They embarked on a journey to Jerusalem to see for themselves if the sign they had seen marked the fulfillment of prophesy. They dropped everything to pursue the Messiah.
There you are pursuing your plans for the day, when suddenly God interrupts with a sign. It may not be a star in the sky, but it’s a person or event that makes you stop and consider what God is trying to tell you. You have an invitation before you to follow God’s sign, to embark on an unknown journey to seek Jesus and God’s plan for your life.
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2 “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:1-2, NASB
Many others saw the Star and did not act. They ignored God’s invitation to seek the Messiah, the fulfillment of the prophecy and salvation for humanity. Even though they were magi, people with status, they humbled themselves to embark on an arduous journey in search of the new born King. Because they persevered, they saw Jesus face-to-face.
After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. – Matthew 2:11
