Unplanned, Planned Events

The blessing of living more than sixty years is that I’ve had the opportunity to witness God act in some very unexpected ways. So many times I have been astounded by how certain events unfolded. There were times I questioned God, but his wisdom proved right in the long run.

When I read Esther 6, I am reminded of so many other instances in my life of God’s unexpected blessing and protection. It’s amazing how Haman’s plans to hang Mordecai because he did not pay homage to him are turned upside down. Instead, because of a dream the king has that prompts him to recall how Mordecai thwarted an assassination attempt, Haman is forced to honor Mordecai. It’s worth reading the chapter or the whole book of Esther to get the full story.

It’s hard to wait on God to act, to expect him to do things according to our plans. Know that God’s love for you is steadfast. Trust that he has a plan for your life, even if you don’t understand it. Wait for him to do the unexpected.

Do you have a moment where God came through for you in an unexpected way? If you feel so inclined, share it in a comment.

Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. – Isaiah 40:31, NASB

  1. What a great story, Kathy. We have a lot of stories about “coincidences” that God planned that we didn’t know about, but the complete turnaround of a person’s attitude is nothing short of miraculous.

P.S. When I recognize a bad attitude in myself, if I can make myself pray for an attitude adjustment, He’ll do that with me, too! I usually don’t feel like asking for it at the moment and sometimes prefer to wallow in my negativity, but if I can think sensibly and pray accordingly, it makes like so much more pleasant!

  2. Oh SO many times He has swooped in. Here’s a tiny one:

I was conversing with someone, and inwardly griping to God about HOW am I supposed to communicate with this kind of obstinance?? Then I remembered God’s directive to praise Him in all things, and give thanks. I paused in my thoughts, and did just that: I praised God for what He was working in me and the other person; I gave God glory for what and how He works, and Who He is; I gave thanks that He gave me the option to run to Him in the midst of trials, and to receive whatever He has in store.

I figured I would have to slog through the rest of the day in any more interactions; but I had the strength of God to uphold me. However, five minutes later the other person’s whole attitude changed to positive, instead of negative. I was really astounded at the change. I again gave thanks to God for this outcome, though I had been ready to remain positive regardless of the other person. This turned out to be a big blessing.

    1. Such a great reminder to seek God’s strength in difficult situations. To seek to praise Him in all circumstances. Thanks for sharing that.

God has created us for a specific purpose. He has equipped us for whatever we encounter each. We need to continually seek Him each day for His strength and praise Him for the privilege of serving Him.

May the Lord strengthen us in our walk with Him. Blessings.
