God Enabled Generosity

We are encouraged to be generous, to give freely to others, to share what we have. Yet do we consider that God gives us the ability to be generous? All that we have is given to us by the grace of God.

In 1 Chronicles 29, David acknowledges this before God: “But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You (29:14, NASB).” David has equipped Solomon with all the materials to build the temple. The Israelites have contributed much of their riches to the project, but David recognizes that all the riches they have is because God has given them all they have.

At one time they were wanderers in the desert: “For we are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope (15).” David appreciated all God had done for him and the Israelites and gave thanks to God for it. The building of the temple was made possible by the generous hand of God.

What can you make possible with what God has given you through your generosity?
