When I feel God calling me to act on His behalf, I tend to respond like Moses in Exodus 4:1-17 with “what ifs” and excuses. I can relate to Moses’ doubts: “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say (4:1, NASB)?” Or, “I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant (10).”
The Lord reassures Moses that with his staff he will be able to perform signs “that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you (5).” Even though God becomes angry with Moses’ hesitancy to go, he sends his brother Aaron to assist him (14).
God created you for a purpose. He placed you at this moment in history for a reason. He gifted you with specific skills to serve Him. His timing is perfect. When he calls you to act, you will have all you need to respond to His will. God’s love and grace will help you overcome your doubts. He will even send you a brother or sister to assist if needed. Let God’s staff, his hand, lead you.
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” – Esther 4:14, NASB
For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. – Psalm 139:13-14
