Behind the Facade of Disbelief

God’s presence is evident even when it seems you are surrounded by disbelief and resistance to Him. In Genesis 43, Joseph’s brothers have returned to Egypt for more grain because of the severe famine in the land. They are concerned that they will be punished after they found all the money they paid for the grain from their first trip in their sacks on their return home.

They try to explain to Joseph’s house steward how they discovered the money and did not know how it arrived in their sacks (Genesis 43:19-22). The steward then told them something surprising: “Be at ease, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money.” (43:23, NASB).” This Egyptian could tell that God was present and at work with Joseph and his family.

Usually it is God telling his faithful not to be afraid, but here it is Joseph’s steward. What did he see that made him and so many others know that God was present with Joseph? Be assured that your faithfulness to Jesus, your desire to wholeheartedly follow Him, is evident to those who you interact with each day. Behind the facade of disbelief and rejection, God is stirring the hearts of unbelievers.
