Together in Spirit

As believers in Jesus, nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39). We are connected by the Spirit of God by our faith in Jesus. Even when we are physically separated from each other, we remain connected by the Spirit.

As Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:4-6: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. We share a common bond, a sacred connection to each other through the Spirit of God (NASB).”

Paul refers to this in 1 Thessalonians 2:17, where he writes about being physically separated from the Thessalonian believers, but not in spirit. In the next verse he talked about the desire to see them, “yet Satan hindered us.” Despite these road blocks, Satan could not stop them from being connected by the Spirit of God.

When we pray for our fellow believers, we are connecting with them as one in the Spirit of God. Our prayers lift up one another, encouraging and strengthening each other. Even though we may be physically separated, we are powerfully connected by the Spirit of God. Nothing can separate us from that. Take a moment to pray for your fellow believers in Jesus.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:13, NASB
