The Evidence of God in You

Your faith in Jesus—your faithfulness in serving Him—is evident to those around you even if you don’t say a word to them. We see this in 1 Samuel 16 where Samuel anointed David and “the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward (verse 13).” Tragically, “the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him.(14).”

Saul’s servants are able to discern the difference between David and Saul. They told him, “Behold now, an evil spirit from God is terrorizing you (15).” To help him, they suggest finding a skilled harpist to play music for Saul so he will be well. They suggest Saul request David, the son of Jesse the Bethlehemite.

This is the same David who was the youngest son and was tending sheep prior to being anointed by Samuel. Now Saul’s servants describe David as “a skillful musician, a mighty man of valor, a warrior, one prudent in speech, and a handsome man; and the LORD is with him (18).” This shepherd boy is now referred to as a mighty man of valor, a warrior.

You may feel like an insignificant shepherd tending God’s sheep in the wilderness of our world, the youngest among elders of believers in Jesus. But you have the Spirit of God dwelling in you—the same Spirit that came upon David. In God you are a person of valor, a warrior for His Kingdom, that is evident to those around you.

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16

  1. The best compliment I ever received was when my cousin had me flown in for a women’s luncheon at her church in California. My first night there we went for their Friday night service and I was able to meet some of the members. I remember this woman coming up to me, and just as she was about to ask me a question, she stopped and smiled. Then she told me I don’t have to ask, I see HIM all over you. I didn’t have to say or word or do a thing and this person could see Jesus was in me. This will always be the best compliment, not because of who I am or what I do, but because Jesus is evident in my life.

    1. Wow. Thanks for sharing that. Such a loving God who gives us encouragement in such special ways. This shows that our desire to pursue Jesus, our heart for Him, is evident to others—not because of who we are or what we do. We just need to abide in Him and follow Him.
