Prayer Journey—Self Control

This is the final installment of praying through the fruit of the Spirit. Each week I focused on one word in Galatians 5:22-23. Today’s word is self control.

What does it mean dear God to control myself? To exercise restraint. To bound myself within your wisdom, your truth, your Word. To sow my love for you deep within my soul—to nurture that love for you above myself? May I have the self control to seek to understand who you are God, who you want me to be instead of me or others deciding who I should be. To discover who you created me to be is to understand my true self. Help me to remember that self control is removing the facade I present to others so I can be who I really am in Jesus Christ. Help me to release control of myself to you dear God—to know that by releasing self control, I can find peace in Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. – Galatians 5:22-23, NASB
