Worn Tent

The older I get, the weaker my body feels. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:1, our body is an earthly tent while we live in this world. Some days I can feel the worn canvas of my tent; the aged poles holding me up; the loose tent stakes that once secured me to the ground. If this tent of mine, this earthly dwelling was all I had, I would feel very discouraged. Yet in Jesus we have hope of new life, a new dwelling with God — our forever home.

As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:1: “For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” By God’s grace, by His gift of salvation, we are given the hope of eternal life. Even though our bodies grow weak here, we are strengthened by God our Father. Everything on this earth will fade away. Only God remains eternal. He is light and life.

For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you. – 2 Corinthians 13:4

  1. Yes, I too, feel the weakening of the outer body as my spirit grows stronger. The latter more than compensates for the former–especially as heaven draws nearer!

  2. Ever word you wrote is true. It’s a paradox, , the outer man declines, the inner man increases. I love this part of aging, the increase of wisdom, courage, knowledge, insight that make me want to shout, yet as I type my old body is giving me fits. Am in the middle of another UTI, having angina often, legs weigh a ton, hips shout with pain, seems to me all the internal organs are letting me know they are aging too. Yet my growing heart for Him is writing this to you. Thank God the outer man will give it up someday and our new tent will be an eternal one. Great post, encouraging divine thoughts.

  3. I can identify.
The Lord stays increasingly close to us as we age, and asks us to trust in his constant care for us.
‘When I am weak, then am I strong’.
